You might already be aware, but for the 2020 model year, the GMC Sierra 1500 is all-new. One of its upgrades for the new model year is known as GMC CarbonPro, a special type of truck bed found on the Sierra pickup. It was first introduced for the 2019 model year where it was available on a pair of specific trim levels, but its availability is expanded for the all-new Sierra 1500. That should help you figure out how you can get it, but we thought we’d go into a bit more detail on what exactly the feature is.

“CarbonPro is made of the same raw material found in seven-figure super cars and even aerospace applications. Coupled with offering the world’s first six-function MultiPro tailgate, the 2019 Sierra packs a one-two hauling punch for whatever the situation demands.”

Features & Benefits of CarbonPro Bed

If you’ve owned a pickup truck before, what is one of the biggest problems you face in the long term? Damaging the bed. No matter how careful or protective you are, in order to use your bed to the fullest, you’ll be filling it with stuff that can potentially damage it. This new bed reduces that risk quite a bit thanks to its carbon fiber makeup. The composite material is more resistant to scratches, dents and corrosion than any other truck bed in the history of the industry. That makes it more durable and ensures it will keep its good looks well into the future.

Furthermore, the bed weighs 25% less than similarly sized beds due to the differences between carbon fiber and traditional steel, which is utilized in most other beds. The nature of its surfaces means you won’t need a liner either, further reducing the bed’s weight. The design maximizes cargo capacity as well, increasing the volume by a whole cubic foot. Considering the Sierra was already delivering best-in-class cargo capacity, that’s a pretty huge deal.

Finally, the bed was designed to be more functional than ever as well. There are specific indentations in the bed that allow the tires of either dirt or street bikes to fit in snugly, and there are two additional tie-down locations at the bed’s front.
