“Watts to Freedom unlocks the full potential of the propulsion system and puts all of its available power to the pavement. It’s an all-encompassing experience unlike anything else – purpose-built for straight-line fun. It’s an amazing demonstration of just how fast 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft. of electric propulsion can move you. It’ll put a smile on your face every single time.”

– Al Oppenheiser, Chief Engineer, GMC HUMMER EV

What does the feature do?

As a refresher, the Watts to Freedom feature in the upcoming GMC HUMMER EV line of vehicles is a driver-selectable technology that, when selected, channels the incredible power of the EV’s propulsion system into lightning-quick bursts of acceleration. This enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 3 seconds flat, unheard of in a pickup truck as far as we know.

As if that’s not fun enough, triggering the technology creates a very fun atmosphere in the cabin, one reminiscent of the pre-launch experiences we’ve seen often in film and television. This atmosphere is created by things like unique sounds coming through the audio system, animations on the different screens that keep the driver and passengers engaged, plus very interactive controls for the driver to utilize throughout the process.

In addition, the vehicle lowers itself 2 inches to create a lower center of gravity before attempting to move at such speeds and also activates the Adaptive Air Suspension system.
