More Off-road Driving Technologies Found in the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1
We spoke about some of the big off-road features that will be found in the brand-new 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 model upon release of the model later this year, such as 4 Wheel Steer, Adaptive Air Suspension and Terrain Mode; but today, we’re going to dive into some more off-road driving technologies found in the inaugural model. These aren’t quite as big as the ones we spoke about the first time, but they’re also not any less exciting.
The HUMMER EV Edition 1 will feature independent front and rear suspension systems, but they’ll be paired to the vehicle’s drive motors. The systems were designed not only to deliver optimum handling when driving off-road but even to deliver a comfortable riding experience on the highway.
One of the coolest off-road-enhancing features in the HUMMER EV Edition 1 is its front e-locker, which is an electronically controlled locking differential that also happens to be driver-selectable. The feature enables the vehicle to lock its front wheels, making sure they turn at the same speed, thus improving traction in off-road conditions.
Rear Virtual Locker
On the other side of the vehicle, there’s a virtual locker that acts as if it’s a locking differential for the rear-wheel drive unit, which features two motors. The rear virtual locker is able to torque vector, making sure the correct amount of torque is delivered to each wheel when it’s necessary.
This new technology suite features underbody cameras both in the front and rear, providing “virtual spotter” views that aid you in maneuvering through severe off-road conditions. The cameras are protected from damage while driving off-road and even feature a function that enables them to wash themselves of debris.
Other features include a full suite of underbody armor, 18” wheels wrapped in 35” OD Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires and heavy-duty ball-spline half-shafts. As always, be sure to keep checking back for even more details regarding the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV.
