We absolutely love talking about the different technologies and features that will be found in the upcoming 2022 GMC HUMMER EV, not only because we can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a new HUMMER EV for ourselves, but because they’re all so genuinely interesting. Today we wanted to take a look at another one that’s new to GMC as a whole, considering the brand has never had an electric vehicle before: DC fast charging. How will it work in the supertruck, and what are its benefits?

How will I fast charge my HUMMER EV?

If you have access to a DC fast charger, then you’ll be able to take advantage of the fastest charging in the industry thanks to 350 kilowatts of charging power. Thanks to the HUMMER EV’s unique ability to alter its battery pack, adjusting from its natural 400 volts to a charging-focused 800 volts, the new electrified GMC supertruck is more versatile than a lot of electric vehicles on the market.

Thanks to a disconnect unit as well as mechanization built into the battery pack, you can change your HUMMER EV’s battery from “parallel” to “series” mode. What does this do for you? Well, it enables you to add 100 miles of range by charging the battery pack for just 10 minutes. As if the GM-estimated 350 miles of electric range wasn’t impressive enough, you can extend the range by a full 100 miles with just a few minutes of fast charging.
