If you’re the proud owner of a GMC vehicle, you’re in luck: most models come with remote start functionality, which allows you to start your engine from a distance using a key fob or a smartphone app. This can be incredibly convenient, especially on cold winter mornings or hot summer days.  

Four steps to using Remote Start 

Using remote start in your GMC vehicle is a simple and convenient process that can save you time and hassle. Follow these four simple steps 

Step 1: Make sure you have a compatible key fob or smartphone app. 

To use remote start, you’ll need a key fob that has the remote start button (usually labeled with a circular arrow). Alternatively, you can use the GMC app on your smartphone, which allows you to start your vehicle from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. 

Step 2: Check your surroundings. 

Before you start your vehicle remotely, make sure it’s safe to do so. For example, if you’re parked in a garage or an enclosed area, make sure there’s enough ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Also, make sure there are no obstacles around your vehicle that could cause damage when the engine starts. 

Step 3: Press the remote start button. 

If you’re using the key fob, press and hold the remote start button for about two seconds. The vehicle’s lights will flash twice, and the engine will start. If you’re using the GMC app, open the app and select the “Remote Start” option. The app will send a signal to your vehicle to start the engine. 

Step 4: Wait for the engine to start. 

Once the engine is started, the vehicle will run for a predetermined amount of time (usually 10-15 minutes) before automatically turning off. If you need more time, you can repeat the remote start process after the engine turns off. Once the engine is running, you can get in your vehicle and drive.
